Skiing at 3 and snowboarding at 5: how it started in Beaver Creek

In 2023, in Beaver Creek/Avon, Eduardo was 5 and started snowboarding. Lívia was 3 and started skiing.

Both had at least three private lessons and adapted well. That is what happened with our family; it is not a rule about the right age to start.

Private lessons made the biggest difference. An instructor can adjust the pace to each child in a way parents rarely manage on day one.

Short days worked better than long ones. Coming back early with everyone in a good mood is worth more than one extra run.

Clothing followed the three-layer method and technical equipment was rented at the destination. Children grow fast; buying skis, a board or boots rarely pays off.

We publish the children's names, but avoid photos of them, their school, routine, full birth date and real-time location.
