What to check before buying
UV protection comes first: look for a clear statement of UVA and UVB or UV400 protection. Snow reflects light intensely and exposure does not vanish on cloudy days. This is an eye-safety requirement, not a styling feature.

Which lens to choose by level and weather
Lens colour is not decoration: it decides how much light reaches your eyes. The figure that describes this is visible light transmission (VLT). Higher VLT means better vision on overcast days; lower VLT is more comfortable under strong sun bouncing off snow.
